Debate on Globalization: More Responses Part - 2
Dear Santhosh,
Dr,Pushpangadan s response to gloalisation debate in the Vedi. The
statements he has quoted as of mine are all surprisingly his own
creations. I feel there is a big lag in his understanding .
I have not said:
i) Culture is always linked to political philosophie.
ii) By globalisation, Sachidanandan meant domination by institutions like IMF, UN, GATT etc.
iii) Globalisation started with Brettonwood conference and not before.
iv)Globalisation s effect on poverty......
I said:
i) The culture of a given society is ideological reflection of the economic and political condition prevailing in that society.
ii) Sachidanandan might have launched an attack on globalisation as engineered and powered by Brettonwood institutions like UN, WB, IMF, WTO......I have seen such an assault by him in his Vayalar speech.
iii) At this point of time, people refer to globalisation as initiated and implemented by Bretton institutions and not to the one as picturised by Dr.Pushpangadan.
Iv) The effect of Globalisation should be viewed through the eyes of the family members of the farmers who committed suicide and the workers who were thrown out of job since globalisation got kick;started.
Now, if Pushpangadan responds to what actually I said, I am available for further discussion in the matter. Otherwise protracted discussions serve no purpose. As for Fredric Jameson it is very clear that Pushpangadan is yet to read his work I referred to, for Jameson has explained with meticulous details how American cinema has damaged cinema in Germany, Britain and France.
Indian cinema is also very severerly infected by HIV from the US.
With warm love and regards,
THILAKAN

Pushpangadan's Reply
Dear Thilakan,
I have relied on my notings during the meeting. If your contentions are different, then the responses would also vary.
Just one point of clarification. I have the full printed version of Satchidanandan's Vayalar Award speech. It does not talk about globalization the way you have described. It quotes Baudrillard on globalization without mentioning global institutions.
Since this is a contentious issue with strong proponents and opponents, the discussions can go on...
I leave the future course to you.
With regards,
(M. Pushpangadan)
